We Care About Feeding America | Rick's Reflections

Join us in our commitment to contribute $10,000 to Feeding America with our own virtual food drive.

LaMarsh Global has pledged $5,000 and is challenging our family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and clients to match our donation. Each dollar contributed will provide ten meals to families in need across America. By leveraging our personal and professional networks and raising $10,000, you can be a part of providing 100,000 meals to those families with the greatest need.

Our Committed to Community Story….

It is the time of year all of us find ourselves reflecting on our good fortune, giving thanks for the love and friendship of family, friends and colleagues, and asking ourselves what more we can do to make the world a better place to live.

For more than twenty-five years, LaMarsh Global has been committed to helping communities and individuals improve their quality of life and the lives of those around them. Over the years, our senior leaders have encouraged individuals and groups of employees to reach out into their communities to do whatever they can to help make the world a better place through contributions to such important causes as the Make-a-Wish Foundation. In addition, our employees are encouraged to take paid time off the job to share their expertise as change management experts through pro bono work with groups like Detroit’s Focus Hope, and other local community causes.

This year, we decided to take a more formal “We Care” approach to our commitment to community. Sam is the twelve-year-old son of one of our staff members. I asked Sam to identify and research several worthy organizations and recommend the one that he thought could benefit most from our focused support. Sam did a great job with the research and ultimately presented us with a compelling argument to adopt Feeding America as our 2014 We Care campaign.

For Sam, it wasn’t just the research. The passion behind his recommendation was his first-hand experience in helping to feed the hungry in his community. Every week for more than a year, Sam has stood in the food service line at the soup kitchen to serve soup, sandwiches, and drinks. He’s cleaned up tables and talked with the people who frequented the soup kitchen. For Sam, there aren’t too many more humbling and educational experiences than meeting, interacting and feeding the homeless, sick and underserved men, women and children who come to the soup kitchen:

“Until I started working at the soup kitchen in 6th grade, I never met a homeless person and didn’t realize how lucky I am.”

Sam asked me if I knew that one in every six Americans are hungry every minute of every day. He asked what I would do if someone I knew was homeless or hungry. He knew we could make a difference.

“Until I started working at the soup kitchen in 6th grade, I never met a homeless person and didn’t realize how lucky I am.”

The LaMarsh Global team has embraced Sam’s recommendation. We agree that Feeding America is the right place to put our support and fundraising energies. The LaMarsh Global team established a Feeding America Virtual Food Drive and my wife and I have pledged $5,000 on behalf of LaMarsh Global. Our goal is simple – we want you to help us in our campaign to match this $5,000 contribution.
